据《天空新闻》报道，英格兰和威尔士45家医院的多达100,000名护士将在下个月举行首次罢工。皇家护理学院透露了12月15日和12月20日罢工的第一批NHS医院名单。
第一轮罢工将有65个医院的运行受到影响。英国皇家护士学院工会秘书长帕特·卡伦表示，“护士们已受够了。受够了低工资……受够了无法给病人应有的照顾”。
11月9号超过半数的护理行业工作人员投票支持这一罢工，这在106年前成立的皇家护士学院历史上是前所未有的。在“政府方面拒绝谈判”之后，学院工会周五宣布了12月15日和20日的两天行动。
据估计，自2010年以来护士的实际工资已经下降了20%，部分原因在于当前的生活成本危机，通货膨胀率超过了11%。
西南部将成为英格兰受到罢工影响的最严重的地区，有13家医院参加了第一次罢工。且该地区原本已经有最严重的救护车和A&E急诊延误情况。
英国首相苏纳克和卫生大臣史蒂夫·巴克利 (Steve Barclay) 表示，皇家护理学院要求的19%的涨薪幅度是英国财政无法承受的，如果满足他们的要求这意味着100亿英镑的额外支出。
NHS的负责人本周写信给医院负责人，敦促他们必须保持急救系统的运行。产科病房、重症监护室、器官移植中心和临终关怀中心将允许罢工，但是要保证至少有基础人员配备。
NHS首席执行官阿曼达·普里查德 (Amanda Pritchard) 承认，由于罢工行动，部分医疗预约将会被取消，但表示会“尽早”告知患者。
